Gay travel in Dallas

Dallas Texas at Margaret Hunt Bridge

Dallas, Texas. A city where Y’all truly means all. Not gonna lie I was excited to visit the Big D, but was not expecting the incredible amount of southern hospitality, ACTUAL diversity, and kindness from everyone I met. This is a city where one can truly expect the unexpected with a thriving pulse.

WHERE TO STAY

I highly recommend staying downtown as it is the easiest to get around to all of the neighborhoods. If you want a hotel that has the most iconic rooftop, eclectic art, lavish rooms, a state of the art spa, and a vibe that embodies acceptance- then get your booty to The Joule Dallas.

WHAT TO SEE

What’s rad about Dallas is that there is ALWAYS something going on to peak your interest no matter what you are into. In terms of museums, the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum is an absolute must. This museum heavily focuses on ‘Upstanders’- folks who stood up for change and injustice. I would also suggest visiting the Dallas Museum of Art as Dallas has the largest Arts District in the United States.

epic photo spots

Everyone loves a sensible selfie and Dallas has the most magical skyline in the US. No matter where you go, you will find that perfect instagram shot to make your friends jealous AF. I have currated my personal favorites for the Gays, Baes, and Theys.

The Arts District reflection pond is fabulous at sunset. The EYE is great for any time of day, but #JustTheTip go around the back to get let into the lawn. Your photos will be so worth it. Make sure you visit the pool across from the EYE at the Joule Hotel in the early AM.

Pegasus is a giant horse in the air, but I just pretend it is a unicorn…HELLOY! Lastly, visit the Gayborhood of Oak Lawn and get the rainbow crosswalk, Oak Lawn sign, and Love is Love Mural.

Where To Eat?

The common theme is BBQ or Tex Mex. As a vegetarian obviously I am going with Tex Mex. The food scene in Dallas is no joke and as a vegetarian I am pleasantly surprised by how many options there are. To prepare for your week in Dallas get your organic juice shots on at Roots Market and Juicery. For an elevated experience with a fancy decor and 5 star meal visit Monarch. Restoration Hardware rooftop is the place to be seen with mouth watering grilled cheese and fabulous salads.

For vegan fastfood get into Project Pollo. It is not to miss if you don’t want to eat the cluck cluck. Beverly’s is the place to be for brunch. For an instagrammable sensation visit Paradiso with the most adorable ambiance and top notch vegetarian food. You cannot go to Dallas without getting your tex mex on. Hit up Campuzano located in the gayborhood.

where to play

The gayborhood is located in Oak Lawn and is known as the Crossroads. Start off at Union, a queer cafe to get caffeinated up. JR’s is the spot to people watch with a cute roof. Woodys is great for sporty gays. Sue Ellen’s is one of about 20 lesbian bars still standing in the US.

The Rose Room inside of Station 4 hosts elite drag shows. TMC is a massive club with gogo boys who werk it. Take a visit down the street to The Hidden Door - a hot spot for bears otters wolves and their admirers. End your night at The Round Up Saloon, which is the ICONIC cowboy bar famous for line dancing. If you are feeling it get on the dance floor for a line dance…but trust these folks take it very seriously.

Just the tip

No matter when you visit Dallas, there is always something going on. Dallas Southern Pride happens in June and the inclusivity and joy surrounding this event is next level.

The heat is real, the boys are pretty, rent a car or uber everywhere. Dallas is not a walkable city. It is, however, a city that exudes inclusivity and passion from each person you meet. To learn more on the Big D, check out my Vlog of Dallas.
