Gay Guide to Phoenix and Scottsdale

Updated: Sep 14, 2019

If you have 24 hours to visit the Phoenix/Scottsdale area here are Ravi's Raves on how to full out see the city. Yes, you may not sleep, but liiiiiiike my motto is - you will sleep when you're dead. Some of the items off my gAyGENDA might not be for you, but I'm giving you OPTIONS.COM so *get into it*!!!

Not gonna lie I was excited to see Phoenix, but I had no idea how breathtaking the city would be! I live in New York City so CLEARLY I am not surrounded by the desert or by mountains. Talk about serenity...Phoenix and Scottsdale for the WIN! I was hoping to meet some sexy cowboys, and boy did I ever.

The gay nightlife scene was massive! There are 27 gay bars, restaurants, clubs, and bath houses in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. What I loved the most about the LGBTQ nightlife was how NON PRETENTIOUS people were. It really felt like a judge-free community full of drag queens, misfits, and hotties. The karaoke scene was a little extra, as every bar basically had karaoke every night. I don't mind singing my face off from time to time, but liiiiike not every night. I'd describe the gay nightlife using the phrase KCDG REALNESS. (Karaoke, Cowboys, Drag, & GoGo Boys).

The food scene was just STOOOPID FIERCE. I had meals that were farm to table, authentic Mexican, and the best Mac & Cheese I ever tasted.

If you are into outdoor activities, then you will be in heaven here. The hikes in Phoenix are challenging, yet superbly rewarding. I also logged onto Grindr to (if you can believe it) not *just* hook up, but to find workouts outside of the box. Some suggested I try GOAT YOGA (?!?) and omg it was Hysterical, SOY fun, and a great workout!

Below are RAVI'S RAVES so that you can plan your trip to this lavish city.

Where to #STAY

Hands down the ANDAZ RESORT & SPA!

It was the most serene environment with an incredibly comfortable bed!!! The spa there also gave me my first ever body scrub, and my skin was GLOWING! The pool was huge and the room keys allow you to get in at all hours of the night, so I miiiiight have gone skinny dipping with Adam Groffman (ps check out his blog! He rocks my world and so does his bod!)

Where to #PLAY

STACY'S Dollar drinks on Sundays, very non-pretentious, super mixed fun crowd

BS WEST Midwestern bar in Scottsdale. Kiki Andrews and her GoGo boys rock this joint! Younger crowd of hot guys!

THE ROCK PHOENIX Karaoke and a back room for cabaret shows. The neighborhood local jaunt.

BAR 1 Karaoke and a back room for cabaret shows. This is a true gay dive bar with sexy bears.

CHARLIES The staple bar of Phoenix. Everyone goes here, and rightfully so! Super sceney, but if you know how to rock out who you are then you will fit right in. Drag shows mostly every night.

Where to #EAT

Barrio Urbano The most authentic Mexican food I ate in Phoenix. Get the Queso Dip, it will change your life.

Mother Bunch A lavish local brewery with the #1 Mac and Cheese in Phoenix according to Fodors.

Hash Kitchen The hottest place to go for brunch on the weekends with a bloody mary bar that has over 80 options of toppings to choose from.

FnB Farm-to-Table restaurant with a true local feel to what the agriculture in Phoenix/Scottsdale area has to offer.

What to #SEE

Musical Instruments Museum This museum represents over 200 countries and territories and the musical instrumentals that originated from each country. There is also a play room where you can jam out.

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West If you are into architecture then this house you MUST SEE. I suggest doing a guided tour which will not break the bank, and definitely hit up the gift shop.

Hot Air Expeditions Get into this hot air ballon. It is calm, beautiful, and gives you a real sense of Arizona. They also serve Champagne after the ride (even though it is still 8 am - hey, it's happy hour somewhere...right???)

Where to #WorkItOut

If you are a fitness junkie or just someone who likes to keep active, I have 3 recomendatios for you.

The McDowell Sonoran Preserve Hike this trail. It takes about 2 hours, but the views are stunning and I have never seen so many different types of cacti before!

Salt River Kayak I have never kayaked before and let me tell you it is so fun! I got out of my boat and the water was super clear and refreshing, especially in the blazing 110 degree weather.

Arizona Goat Yoga I am obsessed with goats and I found out about this workout from a hot guy on GRINDR. Check out my video...
